Der Landtag wird auf fünf Jahre gewählt. Die Neuwahl findet im letzten Vierteljahr der Wahlperiode statt. Die Wahlperiode endet, auch im Fall einer Auflösung des Landtags, mit dem Zusammentritt des neuen Landtags.
