17.1 The parties may agree on the procedure for appointment of the sole arbitrator.
17.2 To the extent that the parties have not agreed otherwise on the procedure for appointment of the sole arbitrator, the provisions of Articles 18 and 19 shall apply.
17.3 The provisions of Articles 18 and 19 shall also apply if the parties have been unable to appoint the sole arbitrator within the time period set by the parties’ agreement or, in the absence of such time period, within the time limit set by the Institute at the request of a party.
17.4 In all cases, the provisions of Articles 20–23 regarding impartiality, independence, confirmation, challenge, release and replacement of an arbitrator shall apply.
